For one day, IDRISSI School transformed into a bustling ancient marketplace
What if history wasn’t just something you read about, but something you could walk through, taste, hear and experience? That’s exactly what happened at IDRISSI International School Bukit Jelutong! Students from both the Bukit Jelutong and Setia Alam campuses transformed the school into a bustling network of trade routes and vibrant bazaars through this year’s students exhibition, called the Silk Road Secrets: Trade, Trails and Treasures.
The exhibition featured 17 civilisation-themed booths, each representing a different stop along the historic Silk Road. The journey began in China, India and the Central Asian nations of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, to the Middle Eastern civilisations of Yemen, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, and onward to Nepal, Pakistan, Mongolia and Turkiye, before reaching the European centres of Greece, Italy and Andalusian Spain.
But what made this year’s exhibition a little different? Our students became little merchants of the day! They sold handcrafted items (which they made themselves together with the teachers!) unique to each country, alongside traditional foods and drinks from different regions, turning the whole experience into something lively and interactive. Visitors could even “trade” using Silk Road coupons, which they redeemed at the counter during the event.
It wouldn’t really feel like the Silk Road if they wore school uniforms right? So, students and teachers went all out, dressing up in traditional costumes from their assigned countries. From flowing robes to intricate headpieces, we must say that their outfits added an extra layer of authenticity to the whole experience.
Another highlight of the day was, of course, the performances! The energy, the colours and the rhythm lit up the space when our students went to the stage with performances inspired by different civilisations along the Silk Road. But before that, just right after the launching, there was an archery performance by our little archers under the guidance of Coach Adriana, a certified and highly experienced Turkish Traditional Archery instructor with nearly a decade of coaching at IDRISSI.
And the audience? Everyone was so supportive! Phones and cameras were up, ready to capture every unforgettable moment.
But behind all this was weeks of preparation. Students worked closely with their teachers to bring everything together. From researching their assigned countries to understanding trade goods, traditions and even languages, everyone played their part beautifully. It proved that when we work together, we can achieve so much more.
We saw them practicing again and again through rehearsals. Sometimes, even on their own, just to make sure they could give their very best. And while all this was happening, classes continued as usual. They balanced their studies, worked on their projects and still managed to give full effort to the exhibition. May Allah bless our students for their sincerity and efforts.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the guidance and dedication of teachers and ustadhs who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Thank you teachers and ustadhs! It all truly showed in the final outcome.
Safe to say… this was a school day no one is forgetting anytime soon.
Imagine a world where the young generation is not only academically brilliant but also emotionally intelligent, practising virtuous traits such as kindness, compassion, respect and empathy. Value Education Programme, or known as VEP is a character-building programme that emphasises on social-emotional learning skills, where students learn to create meaningful connections with everyone around them. Good values are instilled in a variety of activities for the students to be involved in such as the Cookout to share recipes among friends, Charity Bake Sale to raise funds for the needy, visits to Charity Homes and many more.

IDRISSI International School is the first international school in Malaysia to implement STEM with Robotics Curriculum. The curriculum is accredited and certified by Global STEM Alliance (GSA) and International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA). Through hands-on and creative learning, students explore engineering concepts, design, coding, and problem-solving using STEM-friendly robots. Rather than learning in theory alone, students are challenged to develop robots that solve real, everyday problems which helps foster their interest in subjects like Mathematics, Coding, Engineering, Science and Technology, all of which lead to innovation.
The JASS Programme is an internationally recognised, accredited progressive learning programme offered to students aged 10–14, designed to develop well-rounded character and a sense of purpose beyond the classroom. It gives our students an edge over the rest in their education portfolio. Fully aligned with current educational thinking and IDRISSI’s outdoor learning strategy, the programme recognises growth across four key areas:
FLiP is IDRISSI’s Financial Literacy Programme, developed in partnership with MoneyTree Asia Pacific, one of the region’s leading financial education providers. Unlike most Malaysian schools that offer financial literacy as an elective, we teach it as a core part of our curriculum. Our teachers are trained and certified by MoneyTree, equipping students with real money skills, which include budgeting, saving, understanding debt, investing and the importance of giving. We believe that a child who understands money grows into an adult who is responsible, generous, and financially free.
Learning at IDRISSI goes far beyond the classroom. Our students explore the wider world and apply their knowledge through hands-on experiences in our outdoor learning spaces. Eco Programme is a dedicated subject within our curriculum, while Eco Scouts runs every Friday for Year 1 to Year 3, where students take part in activities like making self-watering planters, rainwater harvesting, patch farming, recycling and more. Through these experiences, they discover firsthand how even the smallest actions can make a big impact on the environment.

As the continuity of the JASS programme, students will participate in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), an international leading achievement award programme for students aged 14 and above. Another customised subject we include in our curriculum is Skill and Fill, where students learn traditional Turkish Archery from trainers certified by the Yunus Emre Institute (world-wide non-profit organisation by the Turkish government) and the Okçular Vakfi (Archers’ Foundation of Turkey). The traditional sport is being taught together with its underlying historical, athletic, artistic, cultural and educational values. Being focused, confident and having a good sense of coordination are some of the positive values students can benefit from the programme.
