HOW EID BRINGS US CLOSER: TRADITIONS, TREATS & TOGETHERNESS

HOW EID BRINGS US CLOSER: TRADITIONS, TREATS & TOGETHERNESS

Beyond the celebrations and traditions, Eid is a time of connection, reflection and generosity. That exhausting 12 to 15-hour traffic jam back to our kampung? It never feels too long when we know who’s waiting on the other side—our beloved family, of course!

At IDRISSI International School, we cherish the values of togetherness and gratitude, especially during the joyous occasion of Eid. But have you ever stopped to think about what makes Eid or Hari Raya truly special?

1. Seeking Forgiveness, Reconnecting Hearts

“But if you pardon, overlook, and forgive ˹their faults˺, then Allah is truly All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” — (At-Taghabun, 64:14)

As humans, we all make mistakes. It is inevitable. But Eid reminds us of the beauty of a clean slate. Just as we seek forgiveness from Allah, we also take time to seek forgiveness from one another. Whether it’s a long-overdue apology or a simple hug that mends old wounds, Eid teaches us humility and the power of letting go.

2. Strengthening Bonds Through Celebration

“And hold firmly together to the rope of Allah and do not be divided.” — (Ali-’Imran, 3:103)

One of the best parts of Eid? The reunions! From house visits to late-night chats over plates of nasi impit and kuah kacang, every interaction strengthens the ties that hold us together. Imagine catching up with cousins we only get to see once a year or gathering under one roof with the entire family. Isn’t that priceless?

Throwback to IDRISSI International School’s Eid celebration last year, we prepared games to bring everyone closer.

3. Sharing Delicious Treats with Everyone

“Eat and drink, but do not waste. Surely He does not like the wasteful.” — (Al-A’raaf, 7:31)

The aroma of rendang simmering and the sweet scent of pineapple tart fresh out of the oven… mmm it smells and tastes better when we enjoy them together! From baking kuih raya to cooking flavourful kuah lodeh and preparing perfectly-grilled lemang, everyone plays a part in bringing festive delights to the table. But remember, moderation is key!

Good food, great friends! IDRISSI students had fun during our Eid celebration last year.

4. Spreading Kindness and Generosity — The IDRISSI Way

“The example of those who spend their wealth in the cause of Allah is that of a grain that sprouts into seven ears, each bearing one hundred grains. And Allah multiplies ˹the reward even more˺ to whoever He wills. For Allah is All-Bountiful, All-Knowing.” — (Al-Baqarah, 2:261)

Eid is a time of giving, whether through Zakat, giving gifts to loved ones or simply sharing a meal with neighbours. The joy of seeing a child’s face light up upon receiving duit raya or the warmth of hosting an open house reminds us of the beauty of generosity. As Allah blesses us abundantly, why don’t we share the blessings with those in need?

At IDRISSI, students, teachers and parents came together to donate clothes for our Baju Raya Project.

Remembering our brothers and sisters in Palestine

As we celebrate, let’s not forget our brothers and sisters in Palestine. May we always keep them in our heart, mind and du’a. We pray for their peace, well-being and strength during these challenging times.
