What do we want our children to be when they grow up? Sure, we want them to be excellent in schools, pursue their dream universities and land great careers. But beyond grades and skills, we also want them to grow up kind. To understand others. To take responsibility. To know how to share and care.
As IDRISSI International School focuses on holistic development, we believe traits like sharing and caring is what will keep their feet on the ground. But the scope goes beyond people alone, it also includes care for the environment and the wider world around us.
“And give food—despite their desire for it—to the poor, the orphan, and the captive, ˹saying to themselves,˺ “We feed you only for the sake of Allah, seeking neither reward nor thanks from you.” [Al-Insan, 76:8-9]

Over the years, IDRISSI students and teachers have come together for various community initiatives such as visiting orphanages and donating to those in need. These efforts reflect the spirit of sharing that begins when we give our time and effort. On one occasion, teachers joined hands in a spirit of gotong-royong while volunteering at an orphanage. We also had a project called Baju Raya Project, where students donated their old or unused Baju Kurung or Baju Melayu to those who deserve celebrating Eid just like all of us.
At IDRISSI School Johor Bahru, we also hold Kasih Ramadan every year, where the community is welcomed to contribute new and preloved clothes, toys and dry food to support underprivileged families. Before the donations were distributed, students and teachers worked side by side to sort and organise the items. This meaningful experience serves as a humble reminder to our children that giving, no matter how small, can make a difference.

“Spend in the cause of Allah and do not let your own hands throw you into destruction ˹by withholding˺. And do good, for Allah certainly loves the good-doers.” [Al-Baqarah, 2:195]

We are an eco-school. Of course, we care for the environment! Our school excursions often revolve around nature. In the past (and future too!) initiatives, we have brought our students to beaches to nurture environmental responsibility. One such experience was a beach clean-up at Pantai Jeram, and to our surprise, we collected over 141.5 kg of trash! We felt proud of our efforts but also sad to see how much trash has polluted our beach.
Sustainability is also practised in our daily school environment. All three IDRISSI Schools at Bukit Jelutong, Setia Alam and Johor Bahru have mini farms and beautiful gardens with lots of greenery! The humble garden at IDRISSI Bukit Jelutong has become even greener with the planting of dipterocarpus kerrii (keruing gondol) saplings, carried out by our students together with Gamuda Parks team last month. Through these eye-opening experiences, caring becomes a habit, a mindset and a way for our students to make the world a better place. Small actions, when done together, can make a big difference.

Because we know that children learn best through hands-on experiences, we try our very best to include them in as many meaningful activities as possible. While much can be learned from books, there is a wider world beyond the classroom that can only be truly understood through experience. By planting the trees, they learn to care for the plants. By cleaning up the beaches or parks, they learn to care for the Earth. By visiting those in need, they learn to share compassion. By donating their beloved items, they learn that Allah loves those who share.
Here at IDRISSI International School, we nurture the love for learning in both theory and practical to prepare our children for a balanced education, anchored by the fundamentals of Islamic learning and eco values.
