What if history wasn't just something you read about, but something you could walk through, taste, hear and experience? That's exactly what happened at IDRISSI International School Bukit Jelutong! Students from both the Bukit Jelutong and Setia Alam campuses transformed the school into a bustling network of trade routes and vibrant bazaars through this year's students exhibition, called the Silk Road Secrets: Trade, Trails and Treasures.
The exhibition featured 17 civilisation-themed booths, each representing a different stop along the historic Silk Road. The journey began in China, India and the Central Asian nations of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, to the Middle Eastern civilisations of Yemen, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, and onward to Nepal, Pakistan, Mongolia and Turkiye, before reaching the European centres of Greece, Italy and Andalusian Spain.

But what made this year's exhibition a little different? Our students became little merchants of the day! They sold handcrafted items (which they made themselves together with the teachers!) unique to each country, alongside traditional foods and drinks from different regions, turning the whole experience into something lively and interactive. Visitors could even "trade" using Silk Road coupons, which they redeemed at the counter during the event.

It wouldn’t really feel like the Silk Road if they wore school uniforms right? So, students and teachers went all out, dressing up in traditional costumes from their assigned countries. From flowing robes to intricate headpieces, we must say that their outfits added an extra layer of authenticity to the whole experience.
Another highlight of the day was, of course, the performances! The energy, the colours and the rhythm lit up the space when our students went to the stage with performances inspired by different civilisations along the Silk Road. But before that, just right after the launching, there was an archery performance by our little archers under the guidance of Coach Adriana, a certified and highly experienced Turkish Traditional Archery instructor with nearly a decade of coaching at IDRISSI.

And the audience? Everyone was so supportive! Phones and cameras were up, ready to capture every unforgettable moment.

But behind all this was weeks of preparation. Students worked closely with their teachers to bring everything together. From researching their assigned countries to understanding trade goods, traditions and even languages, everyone played their part beautifully. It proved that when we work together, we can achieve so much more.
We saw them practicing again and again through rehearsals. Sometimes, even on their own, just to make sure they could give their very best. And while all this was happening, classes continued as usual. They balanced their studies, worked on their projects and still managed to give full effort to the exhibition. May Allah bless our students for their sincerity and efforts.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the guidance and dedication of teachers and ustadhs who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Thank you teachers and ustadhs! It all truly showed in the final outcome.
Safe to say… this was a school day no one is forgetting anytime soon.
