11. Can my child go to secondary if he/she does not take Checkpoint?
Yes. Checkpoint is just a diagnostic test to inform their strengths and weaknesses. It is not a requirement for them to enter Secondary anywhere. Meaning, there's no problem for your child to enter any school with/ without Checkpoint
22. Will the school take the April or October series?
April, because the academic year starts from Sept-July every year.
33. What will happen if my child sits in October?
He/ She will take the examination when they are in Year 7. That means, they will learn Year 7 syllabus as usual, and support for Checkpoint will only be given as extra class (after school, once a week for every subject). Be reminded that they will also take mid-year examination of Year 7 a month later.
44. How is the school preparing for Checkpoint in April?
Teachers are teaching the Year 6 syllabus, alongside doing the revision through past-year papers. Students may also opt for additional support i.e. extra classes, provided by the school after-school hour.
55. How can I help my child at home?
You can do the past-year questions together, and consult the teacher for the answers. Some marking schemes are available online, but not all.
66. What is the benefit of Checkpoint over other assessments?
It helps to inform your child's performance against the international benchmark. Plus, it is marked by Cambridge, making the results highly reliable. Checkpoint is also different in a sense that it emphasizes on critical and analytical thinking skills.
